Corey Robin and Jamelle Bouie discuss Robin’s new book, The Enigma of Clarence Thomas, in which Robin delves into Thomas’s biography and jurisprudence, demonstrating the source and consequences of Thomas’s conservatism.
Corey Robin is the author of The Reactionary Mind: Conservatism from Edmund Burke to Donald Trump and Fear: The History of a Political Idea. He teaches political science at Brooklyn College and the CUNY Graduate Center. Robin’s writing has appeared in the New York Times, the New Yorker, Harper’s, and the London Review of Books, among other publications, and has been translated into thirteen languages. He completed The Enigma of Clarence Thomas during his Cullman Center Fellowship in 2018-2019.
Jamelle Bouie is a columnist for the New York Times and political analyst for CBS News. Based in Charlottesville, Virginia, and Washington D.C., he covers politics, culture, and history. Prior to the Times, Bouie was chief political correspondent for Slate Magazine. Before that, he was a staff writer at the Daily Beast and held fellowships at the American Prospect and the Nation magazine. He attended the University of Virginia, where he graduated with degrees in political and social thought, and government.
