Conversations from the Cullman Center: Yasmine El Rashidi and Robyn Creswell

Yasmine El Rashidi and Robyn Creswell discuss her novel, Chronicle of a Last Summer, which is told in the voice of a girl growing up in Cairo over the course of three tumultuous summers from 1984 to 2014. 

Yasmine El Rashidi, an Egyptian writer, is a frequent contributor to The New York Review of Books and an editor of the Middle East arts and culture quarterly Bidoun. She completed Chronicle of a Last Summer while in residence at the Cullman Center in 2015-16.

Robyn Creswell is the poetry editor of The Paris Review and an assistant professor of Comparative Literature at Yale. His translation from French of The Tongue of Adam by Abdelfattah Kilito is forthcoming from New Directions in November.  As a Fellow at the Cullman Center in 2011-12, Creswell translated Sonallah Ibrahim’s modernist novel That Smell, and Ibrahim’s Notes from Prison.
