Summary
  1. Posters manufactured between 1940-1989, announcing the appearance of nationally and internationally recognized African American, Caribbean and African dance companies. The collection has posters of The Dance Theatre of Harlem, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Dance Africa, National Dance Company of Senegal, Jamaica National Dance Theatre Company, as well as, a poster featuring Pearl Primus, and one 1940's poster lauding Asadata Dafora with guests of honor and speakers, Mrs. Mary McLeod Bethune and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Also included in the collection is a poster advertising a performance by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Company autographed by dancer Kelvin Rotardier; a poster advertising the special event, "The Black Dance in America", featuring Arthur Mitchell who participates in dance demonstrations and is also interviewed; and a bevy of Rod Rodgers and Eleo Pomare Dance Company posters. Posters include announcements of dance performances in Europe - Spain, Germany, France; Japan, Brazil and the Virgin Islands. Most posters in the collection are produced by the off-set printing process.
