SUMMARY: Lucia Chase, director of American Ballet Theatre, discusses the company's coming tour of South America under the auspices of the U.S. State Department, the importance of maintaining at least two major American ballet companies, and the formation of American Ballet Theatre by Richard Pleasant. She then talks about the company's repertoire, the usual copyright clause in contracts with choreographers, the star system and the major stars of American Ballet Theatre, notably Lupe Serrano, Toni Lander and Royes Fernandez. In conclusion she discusses her own duties as artistic director of the company.
