Description
  1. 1 videocassette (U-matic, NTSC) (28 min.) : sd., col.; 3/4 in.
Summary
  1. Guests are Carla Maxwell, artistic director of the José Limón Dance Company; Daniel Lewis, a former company member; and Milton Myers, artistic director of the Joyce Trisler Danscompany. They discuss the difficult process of continuing a dance company after the death of its founding choreographer, commenting upon problems such as finding a successor, retaining a sense of vitality in the founder's works, and reconciling artistic integrity with the need for revision. The Limón company is seen in an excerpt from his There is a time; Lewis is seen in an excerpt from Anna Sokolow's Dreams. In Esoterica balletica, art historian Kenneth Archer recounts the collaborative exchanges of Nicholas Roerich, designer of Vaslav Nijinsky's The rite of spring, and the composer Nicholas Rimsky-Korsakov.
