Discussion and demonstration of traditional make-up, costumes and musical instruments. Basic footwork, hand and arm movements, standing postures, and movements of the eyes, head, neck, and upper torso -- Cassette 2. Vol. II (approx. 59 min.): Gesture language. Storytelling through mime, illustrated by a woman's solo depicting the festival of Holi. Navrasa (nine sentiments) [facial expressions]. Symbolic gestures denoting various Hindu goddesses and gods. Examples of different types of kathak dances: andana (invocation), thumri (expressional dance), tarana (musical dance pattern), bhajan (devotional dance). Examples of dance-dramas: excerpts from two works about Krishna. Peacock dance.
