- Summary
- William Hammond discusses the evolution of his career, including some details of his duties as Executive Director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and his beginnings as a stage manager for Alvin Ailey. He contrasts the personality traits of, and technical demands on, dancers and actors, and the relationship between the business and artistic aspects of the company. He discusses Alvin Ailey's health and current works, the style and turnover of dancers in the company, the racial identity of the Ailey company, and audience reception. Hammond discusses his own family and their influence, his plans for the growth and stabilization of the company, performance spaces, and future plans for the company.
