Summary

1. Rehearsals for the dance portions of a song and dance number, "Dreams come true," in preparation for the musical retrospective Jerome Robbins' Broadway. In this number the female character, Maribelle, fantasizes herself in romantic situations drawn from contemporary movies: in the first, she dances a tango with Rudolph Valentino; in the second, she emulates Lillian Gish as America's sweetheart; in the third, she plays a Theda Bara vamp. The sections are not performed in sequence on this tape. Jerome Robbins demonstrates female and male roles for the performers, and watches their interpretations. This tape also contains brief glimpses of other numbers featured in the retrospective, among them "New York, New York" from On the town, and the prologue dance from West side story. "Dreams come true" was cut from Jerome Robbins' Broadway before its premiere in February 1989.
