Contents
  1. The MacNeil/Lehrer report. Katherine Dunham [excerpt] (c1978; final 20 min. of a half-hour long show) / produced by WNET and WETA; directed by David Deutsch; produced by Kenneth Witty; performance segment directed by Emile Ardolino; hosts: Jim Lehrer, Charlayne Hunter-Gault; interviewees: Katherine Dunham, with Ruby Streate and others. The excerpt opens with footage of Dunham's school in East St. Louis, Ill., including scenes of classes in Dunham technique, capoeira (taught by Eusebio da Silva), and dance for children (taught by Ruby Streate). Interviewees include students of the school, who are also seen performing a new work at Southern Illinois University. Dunham is then seen in the program's New York studios, where she is interviewed by Lehrer and Hunter-Gault. The audio quality in this segment is very poor, and their words are often difficult to discern. A complete recording of this program appears on: Sc Visual VRA-149.
  2. [Voices of spring] (1977?; ca. 5 min.) / choreography, Frederick Ashton; music, Johann Strauss; danced by Merle Park and Wayne Eagling of the Royal Ballet. Announced as Frühlingsstimmen, this pas de deux was created by Ashton for the Royal Opera's 1977 production of Strauss's opera Die Fledermaus. The recording is of extremely poor technical quality and there is a brief gap at about a minute into the piece. The pas de deux is preceded by a very brief excerpt of couples in evening clothes dancing a polka.
