Summary

1. 2 on the town, aired WCBS-TV, November 7, 1981. Interview with producer Joseph Papp about his career and the New York Shakespeare Festival. Papp also speaks on his approach to the theater and method of selecting shows for production; the need for federal support for the arts; and his opinions on the current Broadway season, the importance of critics, and his own power. Papp describes the experience of seeing Sir John Gielgud playing Hamlet on Broadway in 1938 and how Gielgud's performance inspired his desire to see Shakespeare performed in American English.
