  4. There are two tapes of this production, each containing a different camera shot. On tape one, the camera moves from room to room on the stage, causing occasional omission of secondary action in the other room. The lighting is low and the image is slightly blurry. Tape two is a full screen, straight shot of the entire stage. The image is extremely dim and blurry.

  1. Producer/director Joseph Papp first encountered the play The nest of the wood grouse by Victor Rozov when he saw it performed in the Soviet Union in 1979. The play opened at the Public Theater/Newman Theater on June 14, 1984 and closed on July 22, 1984. The opening night cast were Christian Baskous, Jacqueline Bertrand, Phoebe Cates, Julie Cohen, Rosemary De Angelis, Ernesto Gasco, Mary Beth Hurt, Ricky Paull, Anne Jackson, Gene Lewis, Afemo Omilami, Rebecca Schull and Eli Wallach.
