Summary

1. The tape begins with comments by Peter Maxwell, who introduces "Winning teams," a program of couple-dancing to be performing in the upcoming week. Two excerpts from the program are presented as previews. Pierre Dulaine and Yvonne Marceau perform a Latin duet, then Peter Maxwell and Vicki Regan perform a Swing dance duet. The dances last approximately fifteen minutes. The view of the dancers is occasionally blocked by members of the audience. The remaining fifteen minutes of the tape contain a speech by Walter Terry, who is introduced by Jacob's Pillow director Liz Thompson. Terry describes the first meeting between Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn and the origin of the Denishawn name. He describes his first experiences at Jacob's Pillow fifty years earlier, and recounts a number of anecdotes about performances by Ted Shawn and His Men Dancers; performances by Alicia Markova and Anton Dolin; the filming of Ruth St. Denis performing Radha; the relationship between St. Denis and Shawn; Shawn's attitude to jazz; and the facilities at Jacob's Pillow in the 1930s.
