Summary
  1. Merce Cunningham accepts the Lillian Gish prize. The ceremony begins with introductions of the prize committee members: Karen Hopkins, Tania Leon, Martin Puryear, and Lloyd Richards. Members of the Cunningham Repertory Understudy Group perform Septet, beginning at 12 min. into the tape and lasting 17 min. Committee chair Richard Koshalek reads a letter from first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton honoring Merce Cunningham. Robert Rauschenberg presents a personal tribute to Cunningham, and Cunningham gives an acceptance speech.
