Summary
  1. This videotape consists of a portion of one episode of the Charlie Rose show, and a portion of one episode of Larry King weekend. Both programs are devoted to Stephen Sondheim's Broadway musical Passion. Stephen Sondheim and his collaborator James Lapine are interviewed by Charlie Rose, discussing the origins of the show, the difficulties involved in producing musicals on Broadway, and the nature of their collaboration. Sondheim also discusses his relationship with lyricist Oscar Hammerstein. Larry King interviews Sondheim and his colleagues Donna Murphy, who plays the leading role in Passion, Mandy Patinkin, and pianist Paul Ford. Murphy and Patinkin each sing songs written by Sondheim. Brief excerpts from the Broadway production of Passion are included, featuring Murphy, Jere Shea, and Marin Mazzie.
