Description
  1. 1 videocassette (VHS, NTSC) (90 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
Summary
  1. Part of Rêves d'étoiles, les grands ballets de Rudolf Noureev, a series of six documentaries. The focus of this program is the Paris Opéra Ballet's 1997 production for the stage of the Opéra Bastille, described mainly in the words of Elisabeth Platel, who danced the role of Princess Aurora. The dancers are seen at work with rehearsal mistress Patricia Ruanne, who danced Aurora in Nureyev's 1975 staging for London Festival Ballet ; performance excerpts provide a glimpse of the finished product. Also on view are glimpses of the scenery and costume shops, and sketches by scene designer Ezio Frigerio, who describes his concept. The program also contains historical material about Marius Petipa's creation of the ballet, his collaboration with Tchaikovsky, the ballet's long tradition of performance by the Kirov Ballet, and previous productions by the Paris Opéra Ballet.
