Summary
  1. This program was presented in conjunction with the exhibition Cai Guo-Qiang: I want to believe. The program includes discussion of and excerpts from Wind shadow, a theater piece created by Lin Hwai-min and Cai Guo-Qiang, and begins with projections of images by Cai created for this piece. Alexandra Munroe introduces the exhibit and the Wind shadow project. Lin Hwai-Min and Cai Guo-Qiang discuss the origins and development of Wind shadow; Cai's other collaborations, including one with Zaha Hadid; the relation of the piece to traditional Chinese forms of dance and calligraphy; the theme of shadows which inspired the work; the training of Cloud Gate dancers; the music and costumes for Wind shadow; the explosion event and gunpowder drawings created by Cai Guo-Qiang for Wind shadow, which is seen in video documentation. After this program further excerpts from Wind shadow were performed in the rotunda of the Guggenheim Museum, however that performance is not included on this recording.
