- Ronni Favors speaks with Robert Greskovic about her background; her family and exposure to the arts; being born and raised in Iowa City, Iowa; dance in Iowa City; how she always aspired to become a dancer; starting at Julie Sullivan School of Dance at the age of eight; moving on to the University of Iowa Children's Program for dance; her work with mentor Toni Sostek; deciding to pursue dance as a career; her experience at the National Music Camp in Interlochen, Michigan; seeing the Ailey company for the first time in Wolf Trap, Virginia; dance providing an outlet for emotions; moving to New York City; becoming a protoge of Pat Thomas at the Ailey School in 1974; her apprenticeship with Sylvia Waters at the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble in 1975; being a member of the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble; becoming a member of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 1976; her experience at the Ailey Celebrates Ellington Festival in 1976; receiving recognition as a dancer; spending 1978-1980 with the Ailey company; joining the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company in 1981; her nine-year career with the Lubovitch company; her exposure to various dance techniques; the Ailey Camp in Kansas City; practicing Buddhism; her ideas about leaving a lasting impression on the world; what she learned from her students at camp; her career transition from dancing to directing the Ailey Camp; being a rehearsal director; "Festa barroca" and Mauro Bigonzetti; the music of Handel; rehearsal and creation of a dance; Mauro Bigonzetti as a dancer; Alvin Ailey as a teacher and a person.
