Kathy Kaufmann (lighting designer) discusses her career and background; her freshman year attending Northwestern University; studying at Lester Polakov's Studio and Forum of Stage Design; designers that inspired her including Eddie Greenberg, Patrick O'Rourke, Arden Fingerhut and Paul Gallo; beginning of her career she worked with choreographers, Adrienne Altenhaus, Betsy Hulton, David Parker and Mark Franko; process of working with choreographers multiple times including longtime relationships with choreographers David Parker and Gina Gibney; how she became a dance lighting designer; how the scale of each venue affects her process; John Hickey and Mary Jo Dondlinger's influences on her as lighting designers; more about her education background; discussion of various lighting design terms including production manager, shop order, light plot, hook-up, channels/dimmers, magic sheet, systems, and specials; how art affects her lighting; how critics have received her work; how being a woman has affected her career; and concludes with a discussion of her upcoming projects over the next five to six weeks.
