Summary
  1. Author Max Wilk talks with legendary Broadway choreographer/director Agnes de Mille about her experiences in the original Broadway production of "Oklahoma!": her repartee with her dancers, Bambi Linn, Joan McCracken and Kate Friedlich, her antagonistic relationship with director Rouben Mamoulian, her eventual founding and becoming the first president of the union [Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers in 1965] because she received no royalties or residuals from "Oklahoma!", her books, and her thought-provoking observations on the personalities of Dick Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein, and their wives. De Mille also talks about her work with other R&H shows: "Carousel" (choreographer) and "Allegro" (choreographer/director), and her own opinions of the experiences. De Mille mentions the brilliant music orchestra arrangements of Trude Rittman ("Carousel", "Sound of music", etc.), but Rittman was unmentioned for years since she was a woman. Wilk and De Mille finish the interview by talking about Celeste Holm ("Ado Annie") and Joan Roberts ("Laurey").
