- Summary
- Leo Robin, a lyricist and songwriter, who collaborated with such composers as Ralph Rainger until the latter's untimely death, and then continued to work with other composers including Vincent Youmans, Sam Coslow,Jerome Kern, and Richard A. Whiting, speaks very affectionately about his partnership with Whiting in Hollywood; Maurice Chevalier for whom he and Whiting composed "Louise"; and Adolph Zukor, a film mogul and founder of Paramount Pictures. Robin reminisces about the making of the musical Monte Carlo with Jeanette MacDonald directed by Ernst Lubitsch; circumstances that separated him from Whiting and teamed up with Rainger; the success of the musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes on Broadway, and discusses such issues as working for movies versus shows, the state of the music, the quality of lyrics, and such.
