- William Hammerstein, a director and producer and the son of Oscar Hammerstein II, speaks about his famous father's childhood and adolescence; his education; his work with Jerome Kern and long fruitful collaboration with Richard Rodgers; the ups and downs in his career; his failed attempts to succeed in Hollywood alonf with other composers and lyricists from Broadway; his circle of friends and associates (playwright Marc Connelly, songwriter Harry Ruby, writer Charles Lederer) ; his joyful character and sense of humor; his "dry period;" his late success; the reflection of his childhood in his works; his mother's perfect image (she died when he was only 12) that is projected in his love lyrics, and such.
