Summary
  1. "Supernatural Wife, a dance/theater adaptation of Euripides' play, Alkestis (438 B.C.), is taken from the mythic tale of King Admetos, who avoids death by arranging to send a surrogate to die in his place. His wife, Alkestis, volunteers for the assignment. But she requests that in return for her sacrifice, Admetos never re-marry. On the day Alkestis dies, Herakles, (aka Hercules) pays a visit to the grief-stricken King. To obey rules of hospitality, the King chooses not to tell his friend that it is his wife who has died, and invites him to stay..." -- BAM playbill, program notes.
