- Alvin Ailey was a dancer, choreographer, and founder of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Shortly before his death in 1989, Ailey and several of his contemporaries granted interviews to journalist and author A. Peter Bailey, who used these interviews in his work to create the book "Revelations: The Autobiography of Alvin Ailey," published in 1995.
