- Summary
- Part of a series in which Sir Simon Rattle and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra present an overview of 20th century orchestral music, with examples from the works of important composers of the period. This segment turns its attention to music's response to war, and how the Second World War changed musical thinking forever. The musical legacy of composers dominant in the first part of the century is compared with post-war composers who were determined to create new music for a changed Europe.
