Summary
  1. The Mindszenty Foundation has been guarding and taking care of the material and spiritual legacy of the prince-primate for a long time, and is also trying to process and publish the documents in its custody. They continued the research, and now, timed to the sixtieth anniversary of the 1956 revolution, they have published the Cardinal's notes on 1956, which are now appearing in print for the first time. Most of the documents in Hungarian, but in some places in English, were written at the Embassy of the United States of America in Budapest, where the author stayed from November 4, 1956 until September 28, 1971. Although he had very limited access to press products and books during his "long visit," he tried to collect and organize all the data. The work, which was not originally created for the public and was not intended to be published, primarily shows how he lived the days of October-November 1956, but it also presents the antecedents, the main events between October 23 and November 4, the retaliation following the revolution and the Kádár propaganda as well. It covers the international circumstances of the revolution in detail, and also places the situation of the Hungarian Catholic Church after 1945 in a broader context, including its own role in it. The last third of the volume is made up of notes.
