Summary

1. Abstract: Various resources and institutional issues are examined in an attempt to determine the realities of feeding a growing world population. Emphasis is on determining problems that may hinder agricultural development and on suggesting ways problems may be solved. The 200-year outlook gives economic and technological projections based on past developments. The projections should consider the influence of factors such as 1) the agricultural dynamics associated with the availability of resources and technology; 2) the institutional concerns of the world's population, and developing countries, in particular; or 3) man's response to the influence of technology on dietary changes and the projected course of agricultural development. Adequate food production is predicted. A revolution in agriculture, through genetics and controlled-environment agriculture, will offer optimum productivity and minimal ecological damage.
