1. Case study of unemployment in the urban areas of coventry and hammersmith and in the newcastle upon tyne developing area, refuting the contention that 'voluntary unemployment' is a widespread social problem in the UK - concludes that the most significant characteristics of the long term unemployed are age (older worker), low skills (unskilled worker) and deficient health (disabled worker), and considers employment policy implications.
