Summary
  1. Presents excerpts from the correspondence of members of the family of Ludwig Marum, a Jew and a Social Democrat from Karlsruhe, who became a deputy in the Reichstag in 1928. In 1933 he was arrested by the Nazis; he was murdered in prison in 1934. His German wife and their three children, Elisabeth, Hans, and Brigitte, emigrated to France. Elisabeth and her husband Hans Lunau emigrated to the USA in 1941. The introduction (pp. 7-29) describes the fate of the members of the extended family. Together with the sister of Ludwig Marum, her children and grandchildren, they were ca. 50 persons; 35 of them were of Jewish origin. Some of them were deported to French concentration camps, e.g. Gurs and Les Milles. 20 died in the Holocaust. Their correspondence contains information about emigration problems, life in exile, and the French concentration camps.
