The ongoing renovation of the landmarked 116-year-old Port Richmond Library will include updating dedicated areas for the children, teens, and adults; creating multi-purpose rooms for a variety of programs and classes; adding a new elevator; and upgrading technology and infrastructure.

Update: Following the restoration of Library funding in the FY25 City budget, NYPL looks forward to reopening this location in the near future. We expect to have a timeline soon.

About the Library

Interior view of Port Richmond

Located two blocks from Port Richmond Avenue along Bennett Street and opposite Veterans Park, the Port Richmond Branch opened its doors in 1905 as one of the branches built with funds from Andrew Carnegie. The branch, with its fireplaces, oak shelving, and original turn-of-the-century furniture, provides an inviting space to read, study, or enjoy free programs.
