About the Library
Beginning as a sub-branch of The New York Public Library in 1929, West Farms Library remains a pillar of the community. Serving a diverse Latinx and African-American population at its Honeywell Avenue location since 1954, West Farms Library remains a community hub at the epicenter of the South Bronx.
Within the expansive children's floor on the upper level, Online Storytime is held weekly for families - featuring unique rocking chair interactive sing-alongs. An adult and teen space is shared on the first level, which remains home to beginner and intermediate ESOL classes held weekly. Two meeting rooms equipped with a projector and 75-inch television, ADA accessible elevator and entrances, and centralized air-conditioning are also featured to provide accessibility and comfort to library-goers.
West Farms Library remains committed to providing diverse and inclusive programming and services. Frequently partnering with community-based organizations such as VIP Services, Community Board 6, Cardinal McCloskey Day Care, and Phipps Neighborhoods, the West Farms library provides informative community information supporting local initiatives. Located nearby, the Bronx Zoo and Botanical Gardens are a short walk away - providing a fully immersive South Bronx experience.
